Pregnancy Yoga Classes

A pregnant woman

Should You Take Prenatal Yoga Classes?

By Puy NavarroCo-Author: Mariellen Brown

If you are a regular yoga practitioner, you already know the many benefits of yoga practice. When you become pregnant, you can continue your yoga practice to keep getting those benefits, which will help both you and your baby.

If you have never been introduced to yoga, and you are pregnant and decide this is the moment of your life to begin Prenatal Yoga classes, that’s wonderful. You need to find a studio with a prenatal Yoga Teacher that you trust and who has experience and then you will dive in the world of Yoga along with your baby!

Prenatal Yoga Classes will ease you through your pregnancy by helping you to stay in shape, to keep your joints flexible, to increase your balance, to improve circulation, to relax, to breathe fully, to strengthen and tone your muscles, to build the stamina necessary for labor, to expand your patience, to magnify your focus, to improve compromised prenatal breathing, to build your confidence and to prepare for trials of labor! Not bad, right?

You need to be aware that your body balance and capabilities are changing daily, and so will your yoga practice. In the first trimester the implantation and fetal development is in process so this is a time for a woman’s prenatal yoga practice to be gentle. If you feel that taking it easy or backing off a bit means that you are not practicing to your fullest ability, just remember that you are now practicing to the fullest of your ability and your baby’s!

During the second trimester you might not be fully showing your pregnant belly. This is the time when the abdominal cavity starts to crowd but pregnancy is not obvious. Usually some energy returns to you, so you are eager to keep coming to your prenatal yoga classes.

By the third trimester most women are showing in their pregnancy and becoming a little more uncomfortable. If they plan to be in a prenatal Yoga Class, most women have joined by this point. Remember to come in and out of the poses more carefully because transitions are critical at this point.

Also remember that pregnancy is a superb time for meditation and Yoga Nidra. It can help ease the fear of not knowing what each day may bring and focus and calm the mind, which can be excessively busy planning, wondering, organizing and worrying. Intense intuitiveness makes the pregnant yogi a prime candidate even if you have never meditated before.

Also be aware that your whole physicality is changing so honor and take care of your body during your prenatal yoga classes. For example, jumping back should be avoided. Also you should take out of your repertoire the following posses: Upward facing dog, deep twists, twisting triangles, deep rotating postures, plough, shoulder stands, headstands, handstands, all the backbends on your stomach, and deep backbends including wheel. Above all, follow your intuition, be careful and enjoy every minute of your pregnancy!

Find the Right Yoga Class For You in NYC

YOGA

In the Big Apple you can find a multitude of amazing cultural offerings: theatre (Broadway and Off-Broadway, Experimental), concerts (Indoors, Outdoors, Classical, Rock, Folk, Underground…) movies (Hollywood, Indies, Foreign Films), and you can find more than a hundred different types of yoga styles being taught at different locations all over NYC!

If you are looking to take Yoga Classes in New York City, the first thing you need to do is figure out what type of yoga suits you best. The most common types of Yoga are Bikram, Hatha, Vinyasa, Kundalini, Ashtanga, Iyengar, Anusara, Kripalu, Restorative, Jivamukti, Starla, Prenatal, Tantra, Ishta, and Meditation. One great way of choosing which kind of Yoga is right for you is to visit the many studios that are located in all of New York’s different neighborhoods. Generally they have special offers for first-time students, or guest passes.

When you begin a new yoga class, try to surrender to the class and then listen to your body. Did it feel right? Is this style of yoga helping you to balance what you may lack in life? You will notice a feeling of change when you find the right class, and it will leave you feeling positive and healthy.

To practice yoga is to bring balance into your life. If you tend to rush through life, you may want to try a Restorative class. If you tend to do a lot of exercise in the gym, maybe you need a Meditation class, or Kundalini.

New York City also has many outdoor events during warm months, like the event to practice yoga in Times Square, where thousands of yoga enthusiasts celebrated the longest day of the year with an all day yoga fest. Attendees were challenged to find tranquility and transcendence in the midst of the world’s most commercial and frenetic place, Times Square.

There are also many yoga events held in Central Park, like the recent Great Lawn event, where thousands of yoga practitioners gathered in hopes to set a world record for the largest gathering in Yoga History.

On many warm weekdays in New York City you can find low-cost (or even free!) yoga classes in Bryant Park and Union Square. There are many other yoga classes offered in parks around the city and in the outer boroughs. These are great opportunities to try out new Styles Of Yoga or ask other yoga fans where they regularly practice.

While you explore new yoga classes in NYC, it is also beneficial to build a home practice, where you can dedicate a few minutes to check in with yourself in the morning, or ground yourself and relax at the end of the day. With the tools you will get in the group classes or with the help of a professional private Yoga Teacher, you will learn how to make the most of your yoga classes.

Yoga at Wanderlust

Yoga Room Decorating And

Design Ideas

By Lee Dobbins

A room in which a person can practice a Yoga Routine must be one of comfort. In order to truly reap the benefits of yoga, a person must be able to move around freely and in perfect comfort. When considering your yoga room decorating and design you must be sure to add things that will free you mentally while in The Yoga practice so that its benefits will be felt to their fullest.

Yoga, which comes from the ancient practice of meditation, is a moving practice in which you are trying to train your muscles in certain directions while also concentrating on making them more firm. In order to do this practice, there are certain items that you will need to use. Yoga Mats should be used to provide your body ultimate cushion and support. There are Yoga Balls that get used as well as several other tools. These can be added to the décor of your yoga room.

The color that you choose for your yoga room should be an earthy tone. Perhaps a rosy yellow or a waterfall blue/white combination would be a great color for this room. This will add to the calming effects of yoga while in practice of it. Another color choice may be a deep red to reflect the color of décor that yoga originated from. Either way, you want the color to help your mind relax as you concentrate on particular muscle groups in your practice.

Candles are another important part of yoga. The colors of the candles you choose can either match or contrast with the colors that you’ve chosen to paint the room. They will grace your practices as you light them and reflect upon their glow when you are doing yoga. Their flames will add to the décor and feel of warmth in the room. Other knickknacks throughout the room may include Buddha statues or paintings of waterfalls. These add unity to the room as you bring together your own tastes and the history of the practice of yoga.

A final touch that will enhance the use of this room would be a set of speakers to surround the person practicing. This would be something that’s both functional and decorative. Speakers can come in several different colors or they can reflect the wood grain that they are made out of. They can be on stands in several places throughout the room, or they can be placed within the walls themselves. Ultimately, as they are used in the yoga practices, they will create the feel of tranquility that is so important.

A yoga room should create a feeling of relaxation while remaining functional. Though you are certainly not relaxing while doing yoga, your mind should be free to concentrate on the muscles being worked. By adding these decorative touches in your yoga room decorating and design efforts, you are freeing the mind to be where it should be while your body is prepared for the stretches and practices of yoga.

Online Yoga Lessons – Free Yoga Videos

By Renee Lawrence

If you have heard about yoga, but felt too shy to join a class, you can learn how to practice yoga by watching free online videos. It may be too intimidating for you to visit a studio, but when you go online you can get yoga tips without having to face anyone. If you have ever watched a Yoga Class, you might think that everyone there already knows all of the poses. This may prove to be too overwhelming for a beginner. If you are curious about learning yoga, you can go online and read information about how to start your yoga practice.

Health experts recommend some form of daily meditation to help lower your stress level. Yoga includes meditation along with stretching and muscular development. The focus in yoga is on breathing so you when you practice yoga, you will learn how to relax and breathe deeply. When you watch some free online Yoga Videos, you can see how the poses should be done and how long each pose should be held. You can also see the correct way to stretch your muscles. Yoga can be confusing because yoga instructors will be calling out different positions during a class. It could be hard to attend a class and watch an instructor and do a pose all at the same time.

When you practice yoga, you will want to select one of many Yoga Mats on the market. There are Cheap Yoga Mats and expensive ones. If you are just beginning your yoga practice, you may want to select an inexpensive mat until you know you want to continue practicing yoga. To get some yoga tips, you might want to view some free online yoga videos. Yoga can be demanding and you may want to watch experienced instructors do some poses first before you try them. Some advanced poses require you to maintain your balance for a few minutes. This can be very challenging when you are first starting to learn some basic poses.

Yoga tips can also help you feel more comfortable when you decide to join a yoga class. There are tips on how to dress for a yoga class and where to put your mat when you are new to a class. You will want to know how much conversation to make during a yoga class. Since yoga is a meditative practice, conversation is normally discouraged during a class. Responding to the instructor or crying out is also considered rude. The instructor will normally let you know what to do if you find a pose too challenging.

Ashtanga Yoga

Author: admin

ashtanga yoga

Why Ashtanga Yoga May Be Right For You?

Ashtanga Yoga is a specific area of yoga developed by K. Pattabhi Jois. This form of yoga can also be referred to today as the “Eight Limb Yoga”. It is referred to that as it pertains to the eight spiritual practices.

The front four limbs pertained in Ashtanga Yoga are as follows: niyama, asana, Pranayama and yama. These are considered to be the externally correctable practices. The internally correctable set of practices are: dhyana, dharana, and pratyahara.

These limbs can all be corrected by using The Yoga form of Ashtanga Yoga. However, this form of yoga can be quite stressful on the mind.

K. Pattabhi Jois concluded that practicing the eight limbs as well as it’s sub-limbs is not probable. In doing so the body should be extremely strong so that the body can effectively perform the practices. If the body is not strong enough, and the sensory organs are incorrectly functioning then practicing will be of no use.

This is the theory of K. Pattabhi Jois. It is mandatory, so when doing her practices you make sure that your body and health will improve. When talking about Ashtanga Yoga, there are two styles that pertain to it. These styles are referred to as Tristhana and Vinsaya.

Vinsaya is a style unique to Ashtanga Yoga and helps separate it from the other majority of Yoga styles. Vinsaya pertains to the motion and breathing exercises which are used for internal body cleansing. Each physical action is accompanied by a single breath. When performing Vinsaya, the most important thing is sweating. When you are beginning to sweat is when you know you’re doing the exercise correctly. When you are performing Ashtanga, your body starts to excrete toxins from your inner body, so the more you work out and sweat, the more toxins you’re releasing from your body.

When performing Ashtanga Yoga you will learn and use three different poses.

1. The first is considered the primary series which aims at correctly aligning

and detoxifying your body.

2. The second is to help purify your nervous system.

3. The last is considered to be the advanced series and helps measure grace and

strength.

Tristhana is yet another yoga technique or principle used to represent three key things: posture, breathing technique, and finally Dristhi of the Looking Place. All three of these key things work together to perform a function.

Breathing techniques are a key practice in Ashtanga Yoga. They must be synchronized and it is important to use a single breath for every movement you make. Ujjayi Breathing is the form of breathing used in Ashtanga. Using this technique is mandatory and should be lengthened after each exercise. What you really need to do is hold your pose for a longer time while also holding your breath. This is a great breathing exercise and can help cleanse your body internally and help strengthen your nervous system.

Ashtanga is a great way for you to help cleanse and strengthen parts of your body. If you’re looking for a great Yoga Workout for strengthening internally as well as helping strengthen your nervous system then Ashtanga would be a great choice for you.

WiKi Divya Mat -

The Soft ‘Bed of Nails’ For Health and Wellbeing

By Dale A Davies

Nagelbrett Ausschnitt

If you suffer from stress, muscular tension, insomnia or fatigue, the WiKi Divya mat might be just what you need. This new health and wellbeing product is an effective tool for anyone who wants to improve their general health and sense of wellbeing.

The WiKi Divya mat has its origins in the traditional Indian bed of nails. The bed of nails has been used for thousands of years by Indian yogis (yoga practitioners) to enhance the overall wellbeing of both body and mind. Whereas the original bed of nails was constructed of wood and metal nails, this modern version is made from plastic and a comfortable Styrofoam padded cotton material. It works on a principle similar to acupuncture where a number of points over a particular area of the body are stimulated, increasing blood flow and lymph circulation. The difference lies in that the plastic ‘nails’ do not puncture the skin. When blood flow and lymph circulated are promoted, endorphins, known as ‘nature’s pain killers’, are released.

Endorphins can block pain signals and produce a sense of wellbeing. In a study to investigate the effectiveness of the WiKi Divya mat 98% reported pain relief, 96% reported relaxation, 94% reported improvement in the quality of sleep and 81% reported an increase in energy levels. Of those subjects who have allergies, over half reported relief of their symptoms. These results are astounding and may even surpass those of the traditional bed of nails. Each button on the WiKi Divya mat has 27 pressure points and each mat has 230 buttons. This provides over 6000 points of contact with the skin which is a much higher figure than any traditional models could achieve.

The WiKi Divya mat has been shown to provide relief from back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, sciatica pain, muscle cramps, muscle tension, stiffness, frozen shoulder, pinched nerves, numbness in legs and feet, jaw tension, grinding teeth, insomnia, arthritis, inflammation, digestive problems, IBS, acid reflux, period pains, PMS, menopausal symptoms, depression, fatigue, mood swings, cellulite, low or high blood pressure, allergies, cold and flu, sinusitis, weight loss and many other conditions. It can even be used after exercise to speed up recovery and during cancer treatment to ease the side effects.

If you have any specific conditions, we recommend that you consult your GP before using this product. Those who have sensitive skin or severe eczma or psoriasis should use a towel or wear a T-shirt when using the mat to avoid any uncomfortable itching and should initially lie on it for a shorter period of time than recommended. Pregnant women and people with coagulation problems (haemophilia) or undergoing treatment with anticoagulants such as Waran, Klexan or Heparin should not use the WiKi Divya Mat as there may be a risk of subcutaneous bleeding and bruising.

Combating Stress with Laugther Yoga in Ottawa

Stress. It’s everywhere, and it’s wreaking havoc on us. We try to adapt, shift, and stay the course, but our bodies were never designed to remain on full alert. Stressors gnaw at us and eventually manifest themselves as physical, mental, and/or emotional symptoms. In fact, stress can be linked to more than 70-80 percent of illness. Therefore, one could hypothesize that stress is no laughing matter. Or, is it?

If there was ever a time to laugh, it’s during times of stress, and the practice of Laughter Yoga is a fabulous way to initiate, and maintain, a healthier lifestyle.

Laughter yoga
began in Mumbai India in 1995 as the brainchild of Dr. Madan Kataria. At the time, he wanted to offer his patients an alternative and enjoyable way to combat stress related illnesses, so he gathered five attendees together in an outdoor park for his first session. It is now practiced in over 65 countries.

Laughter yoga has been proven to combat stress. Foremost, it increases oxygenation. When we’re under stress, our breathing patterns alter. We breathe more shallow and less regularly. Some of us even hold our breath subconsciously, leading to a build up of carbon dioxide in the blood. This produces further anxiety, exaggerated emotional reactions, and increased stress arousal, so a vicious cycle ensues. During laughter yoga, deep breathing exercises stimulate the diaphragm and abdominal muscles. This activates the parasympathetic branch of the autonomic nervous system – the calming branch.

Laughter yoga also reduces levels of the stress hormones cortisol and epinephrine in the blood. Stress hormones provide our bodies with the ability to react to stressful situations of danger that require immediate attention. They are not, however, designed to serve us on a continual basis. When cortisol levels remain elevated we lose our ability to turn off that stress response, which leads to negative emotions, depression, and illness.

Continual levels of stress can also cloud our ability to achieve personal and professional goals. The modern workplace alone contributes to enormous amounts of stress and negativity in our lives.
Laughter yoga
is being utilized more and more in the business setting to reduce physical, mental, and emotional stress, leading to improved productivity, cohesiveness, and team-building.

So, yes. Stress is, in fact, a laughing matter. A matter of reduction, a matter of calm, and a matter of survival. And of all the suggested methods for controlling stress, laughter yoga is, by far, the most fun.
